It only takes 3 hours of driving from Kathmandu, and during this time, the wild yet safe Trishuli River will provide class III to IV rapids for an ideal day out for people wanting an exciting but not extreme rafting experience.
It starts with a drive through picturesque hills, terraced fields, and traditional villages before you reach the put-in point. Later, you’ll paddle down along the rolling rapids, deep gorges, and sandy beaches of the river after a thorough briefing from professional guides. The waves and drops of Trishuli provide just enough adrenaline, while the landscape around you offers leisurely and complete immersion into nature.
Trishuli River Rafting caters to the needs of families, adventure enthusiasts, and beginners alike. It’s all about fun, excitement, and breathtaking scenery. Whether looking for an adventurous day trip or a quick escape from the city, this rafting trip promises to be unforgettable.
Your adventure starts early in the morning with a hotel pick-up in Kathmandu. You will meet your rafting guide and fellow adventurers before departing for the Trishuli River. The journey is a scenic 3-hour drive along the Prithvi Highway, taking you through lush hills, terraced fields, charming villages, and alongside the rushing river itself. Along the way, you will get a glimpse of traditional Nepali countryside life and might even spot local farmers tending to their fields or school children waving as you pass by.
A stop for a while at the roadside restaurant allows one to have some stretching, quickly have breakfast or tea, and then get going to the rafting starting point. Later, head towards rafting starting point
On arrival in Charaudi or other specified starting point-maybe depending on the water level-you are greeted by the rafting team where all rafting gear is provided, including a helmet, life jacket, paddle, and wetsuit when needed. You will then receive an extensive safety briefing from your experienced raft guide before the start, covering some very critical rafting basics:
Once everyone is equipped and feeling great, the rafting crew will assign seats in a raft – to ensure there’s an even amount of paddlers for balance. Then it is off to the river!
As you start on the river, the first few minutes of floating allows you to get familiar with the paddling technique and rhythm in the water. Soon, the first set of rapids approaches, an adrenaline-filled moment that takes you through exciting waves, sharp turns, and swirling currents.
Within the first hour, you will be going through a few famous rapids, each with its own adrenaline:
Between the rapids, you get those quite extensive sections where you can just enjoy the breathtaking scenery and take the opportunity to jump into the water for some energizing swimming. The guide might introduce some fun river games too, making the experience a memorable one.
At a designated ‘calm’ section of the river, adventure-seekers can take up cliff jumping; the height differs depending on water levels. This is a really unforgettable leap into the cool waters of the Trishuli River. If this is too exciting for you, then just lie back with your life jacket and enjoy the peacefulness of the river.
After this brief rest, you’ll head into some more thrilling rapids until you reach the end.
The rafting ends at a beautiful riverbank spot. You will take your time over changing into dry clothes and having some rest time. The environment is beautiful all around, making it a great place to hang out.
You are treated to a buffet-style lunch at one of the riverside resorts or camps with traditional Nepali cuisine, comprising dal bhat, a mixture of rice and lentils, fresh vegetables, chicken curry, and local pickles. Sharing stories of the adventure with your fellow rafters over hot tea or cold drinks is another exciting thing you will do. Take your time by the riverbank to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings; snap some last-minute pictures of this beautiful Trishuli River.
After lunch, you head back in the vehicle. The time it takes to go back would be more of an opportunity to catch a nap, pass the time, or ruminate over this whole experience. This is for refreshments on the way or tea, or at stops that most in the group would like.
You will drive back to Kathmandu in the late afternoon for a drop-off at your hotel. This marks the end of an unforgettable day packed full of adventure, nature, and fun on the Trishuli River.
